It often seems like we read about celebrity divorces on a daily basis. First it's an actor, then a singer now an NBA star. But how can anyone in Mississippi relate to their situations? In fact, aside from wealth, perhaps, there is little difference between a celebrity divorce and one of a normal couple. Mississippi residents may even be able to learn a thing or two from some celebrity divorces.

As many of our readers may have heard, Kobe Bryant -- an NBA star -- and his wife recently decided to divorce. What is interesting about their situation, however, is that they do not have a prenuptial agreement. What that means is that anything either spouse earned or acquired during their marriage is considered marital property and is up for grabs.

Without a prenuptial agreement, Bryant's wife could receive half of Bryant's net worth. According to reports, the ball player is worth around $150 million. In addition to a potential payday of $75 million, Bryant's wife will also likely receive spousal support and child support. A lawyer in their area said a prenup could have put a limit on the amount of alimony and property rights Bryant's wife had.

In addition, Bryant's wife is allowed to maintain the couple's standard of living after the divorce is complete because the two were married for more than 10 years, qualifying it as a "lengthy marriage."

What people in Mississippi can learn from Kobe Bryant's divorce is that sometimes it is worth it to have a prenup. Even if you aren't worth $150 million, a prenup can lay out terms concerning spousal support, inheritance or a family business. While no one plans for divorce, sometimes it happens. If you have certain assets that you would like to protect, creating a prenuptial agreement is a good place to start.
